After a brief introduction discussing the term 'private provider' and defining and explaining the term, this paper looks at completed and current research in the area, and then at research needed. Several projects are described. The author asserts that effective policy making in relation to private providers and open training market competition requires improved research on both elements. Systematic national surveys of registered private providers should be a priority activity within the next few years. Show less
